Thelma Jean Hardamon

February 22, 1914 - June 1, 2016

Thelma Hardamon Thelma Hardamon was truly one of a kind. She stood about 5 feet, but she was fierce, brave, and feisty. She was born Thelma Jones to Jessie and Hattie Givens, but raised by her grandparents George Washington and Esther McNeely. She had three brothers - Edgar, Jessie (Ralph) Jr., and John Fletcher. She also had a younger sister, Ruth. As a teenager, Thelma left her family. She soon met and married the handsome serviceman, William Lee Hardamon in 1932. Hardamon was serving in the United States Army when the couple settled in at Beale Army Base (now Beale AFB) in Marysville, CA in the 1940's. Thelma quickly settled in the role as a maid for Dr. William and Mrs. Rachel Vasquez. Thelma was no ordinary housekeeper. She as proud of her work as a friend and confidant. She took the utmost pride in caring for the Vasquez's home and three sons as if they were her own. She would also care for their grandchildren. She worked for the family for more than 60 years until her retirement in 1987. Thelma was also a mother to her biological son, Lester, who tragically passed. Later, she would be blessed with a loving daughter, Agnes Jean Hardamon. Thelma, a trailblazer in her own rights, would eventually bring family members across the country to Northern California including nieces, nephews, and her sister Ruth. The two were inseparable until Ruth's death on November 4, 1989. She instilled in those around her the value of hard work. Although her age is not exactly known, Thelma lived a long and prosperous life. She leaves behind her daughter, Agnes; granddaughter Ashlee and her husband Tyrone; grandson Levi; and a host of nieces, nephews, great- and great-great nieces and nephew. Although Thelma is absent from us, she is rejoicing in Heaven with her husband Hardamon. Thelma Hardamon was small in stature, but mighty in wisdom. Graveside services will be held Friday June 10, 2016 at 10:00 am at Sutter Cemetery.
