Lou McCumber

September 9, 1950 - September 26, 2014

Louis D. McCumber 64, went home to his Heavenly Father on September 26, 2014 surrounded by family and close friends. Born on September 9, 1950 in Yuba City, Lou remained a lifelong Yuba-Sutter resident. Lou McCumber is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Karen McCumber, son Kevin McCumber (Verna), daughter Katherine McCumber, five grandchildren; Sharon, Katrina & Sabrina McCumber, Brianna Hayter & Tyler Langlois and two great-grandchildren; Noah & Azlynn Hayter. Lou also leaves behind two brothers; Rocky (Di) McCumber, Greg McCumber and one sister Cashalyn (Steve) Gilliss. He was preceded in death by both his parents Ralph and Bernadine McCumber, sister Nancy McCumber, brother Jeff McCumber and cousin Valerie MacMillan. For the past 44 years, Lou had become a respected & accomplished glazier (glass-designer/installer). In 2001, Lou (along with wife Karen) opened McCumber’s Glass in Marysville. Although Lou was a perfectionist when it came to his trade, he valued personal relationships over success & profit. Since early adulthood, Lou was active in the Y-S community, serving as Boy Scout leader for numerous years as well as coach & umpire in local Little League. He loved building Hot-Rods, and as a result, would later become a Classic Car Appraiser. He also was a motorcycle enthusiast, enjoying many hours on the road with Karen on their Harley Davidson’s. As time allowed, Lou also loved black powder rifling. Lou’s main passion, however, was family. He gave tirelessly to provide for his loved ones. His devotion & love for wife Karen was a model to many. Lou treasured time spent with family, building a tradition of camping on the Yuba River where his love for stream fishing grew. He also loved taking family trips to Disneyland (although we are not sure who enjoyed these trips more –the children or Lou!) Lou McCumber was a lovable kid in a grown-up body. Most recently, Lou was a founding member of The Bride Church and served as both Elder and Board member. He was an active supporter & participant in The Craftsmen for Christ ministry. Lou possessed a love of cooking and would later establish Chefs for Christ within the CFC Ministry. His growing passion for Jesus taught Lou how to demonstrate grace. Lou passed, surrounded by the evidence of Christ’s love. “Thus, by your fruit you will recognize them”. A public viewing will take place at Holycross Memorial Services (486 Bridge St. Yuba City) on Thursday, October 2nd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be at the Church of Glad Tidings (1179 Eager Rd. Yuba City) on Tuesday October 7th at 3:00 p.m. with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, Lou would have desired contributions be made to the Craftsmen for Christ ministry (655 Colusa Ave. Yuba City)
