Chester L Greene

October 6, 1933 - July 24, 2017

Chester Greene was born in Muse, OK, October 6, 1933, to Benjamin and Isabelle Greene. He was the eighth child of nine in the family. He grew up on a poor Oklahoma dirt farm with no running water or electricity. They used mules and wagons for transport and plowing the yard. The first car in the family was bought by an older brother. Though the times were tough and the money was tight, the value of living was high with hard work, respect, and integrity. At a very young age, he took to music, playing the mandolin, guitar, steel guitar, some banjo, and a bit of the fiddle at times. He learned to play music by ear and could never read a lick of music. He was a very accomplished guitar player and enjoyed picking and grinning with many different generations of players. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1963. He met the love of his life Kay Sanders in Pondosa, CA, while working at the lumber mill. They both later graduated from Chico State, becoming life long teachers. They first lived in Gridley, CA, then Sutter, CA, and settled in Tierra Buena, CA, for over 40 years. Chester was a teacher at Sutter High School for over 25 years and taught at Yuba College for over 10. He always enjoyed teaching and remembered his students by name. He later changed his occupation to rental property, fixing up older homes and renting them out or selling them. He and his wife Kay raised three beautiful children; Lester Greene, Lisa Greene, and Lamont Greene. Chester's beloved wife Kay passed away in 2010. His loving daughter Lisa in 2008, and very recently his son Lamont passed away on June 21, 2017. He is survived by his oldest son Lester Greene, his wife Theresa Corbin Greene, and grandson Cody Greene, all of Valdez, AK. Services will be held at Holycross Chapel on Friday, July 28, 2017, at 1:30 pm.
